The University of Duhok

Considering the need for higher education, the Parliament in Kurdistan Region established the University of Duhok in 1992. At that time, the University was attended by 149 students.

Right after it was established, the College of Medicine and the College of Agriculture were founded under the university. Due to the economic crisis and UN embargoes, the university could not progress much for the first two years. However, when everything was back to normal, the university developed substantially.

As of today, the public university has 18 colleges and 76 departments. Thousands of students are currently pursuing education at this university. More than 12,000 students are enrolled in undergraduate courses (of which about 44% of students are females). Post-graduation courses are being pursued by more than 14,000 students (out of this, 42% are females).
