Sanandaj, the University of Kurdistan, is the biggest university in the Iranian province of Kurdistan. It was in 1991 that the “Supreme Training College of Sanandaj” gained recognition as an independent university. Today, the educational institution features 41 departments that include art, literature, social sciences, engineering, agriculture, and much more.

The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani

Founded in 2007, AIUS (American University of Iraq, Sulaimani) is a private university but is purely for public benefit (it’s a non-profit).

A Board of Trustees in 2006 decided to bring American-style education in Iraq. That is how they aimed to reform the traditional education system. As of today, they have over 1300 students enrolled in their various programs.

University of Sulaimani

Located in the Sulaymaniyah, the University of Sulaimani was established in 1968 and reopened in 1992. As it is one of the earliest universities, it is culturally important. Today, the faculties include everything from medicine to humanities. Over 23,000 students are a part of its undergraduate program.
